Water Tower or “Easy Target” uses old folk symbols as a back drop to drive home the need for water and the danger civilization is in by not respecting it. An old symbol used on this painting is one that was painted on someones door by gypsies, to let others know this house or village were easy targets. This paintings whimsical line work and bright colors are inspired by the works of Hundertwasser.
This painting was created in many layer of washes and finally more opaque colors on gessoed euca board with absorbent ground. In this painting there is turmoil in the sky, graffiti amongst the structures including many cultural symbols and drips that give direction or mood to the piece. The plant life in the foreground almost look like dancing figures. The water tower symbolizes community, life and a potential threat to our way of life.
